3 Annoying Networking Myths | Paul Nazareth | LinkedIn: "Usually when someone reaches out after a long time I hear "oh Paul, you're such a great networker. I'm just too busy to do anything but my job and keep my life running on schedule".

What I think is really going on is that all the networking events and conferences out there are perpetuating these three myths. And in doing so are shortchanging professionals out of the very tangible benefits of building this vital habit. Let's bust up those myths shall we?"

This session covered some of the reasons why fundraisers resign – there are many reasons – and was based on findings from focus groups of 8 individuals and 4 groups. Individuals particpating in the focus groups were asked to identify negative and positive voluntary resignations i.e. an individual saying, “I no longer wish to be employed at the organization”."

Nearly 75% of Charities Met Fundraising Goals in 2014

Nearly 75% of Charities Met Fundraising Goals in 2014: "BALTIMORE, March 30, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The latest survey by The Nonprofit Research Collaborative finds that 73 percent of charities met their fundraising goals in 2014, the best result since the group began asking the question in 2010 and a marked increase over the 63 percent that met goal in 2013.

In addition, 63 percent of 2014 respondents saw growth in funds raised (most nonprofits increase their annual fundraising every year), the best result since the annual surveys began in 2010.

The Nonprofit Research Collaborative's (NRC) Winter 2015 report asked organizations to compare their 2014 fundraising results with what they raised in 2013. The NRC survey collected data from more than 1,200 organizations in the U.S. and Canada about charitable receipts in 2014. The Winter 2015 report is the fifth annual report using the same methods and same questions.

Johns Hopkins Had A Healthy Prescription For Business And Education - Investors.com

Johns Hopkins Had A Healthy Prescription For Business And Education - Investors.com: "ohns Hopkins (1795-1873) "was a frugal and humble man who saw no reason to leave monuments to himself, so he destroyed most of his personal papers and business correspondence once they had outlived their immediate purpose," James Stimpert, senior reference archivist at Johns Hopkins University's Sheridan Libraries, told IBD.

Hopkins' bequest of $7 million (worth $138 million today) to his namesake institutions was the largest U.S. donation at the time, presaging Andrew Carnegie's call to philanthropy — in the form of the 1889 article "The Gospel of Wealth" — by more than a decade."

A bourbon tasting benefits Mount Washington Pediatric Hospital - Baltimore Sun: "No one was offended by that logic, least of all Paula Bragg, director of philanthropy for the nonprofit Mount Washington Pediatric Hospital, which was the beneficiary of the $25-per-person bourbon tasting, with all proceeds earmarked for the hospital.

It's not unusual to find Mount Washington Tavern raising money for the hospital or providing food for hospital events. In fact, it's been common for more than two decades, say Bragg and Rob Frisch, co-owner of the popular restaurant with Dave Lichty since 2006."

To sustain the growth of the industry we must consider how to effect real change, particularly in areas where we have the opportunity to better the lives of those who need help most. We have the knowledge and expertise to manage and grow wealth, so why not use it as a force for good?"

Strategies: Seth Godin goads businesses, individuals to take initiative - Denver Business Journal

Strategies: Seth Godin goads businesses, individuals to take initiative - Denver Business Journal: "homas Edison famously said, "I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work." Those words echoed during a review of popular author, blogger and speaker Seth Godin's book, "Poke the Box."

He stresses the importance of taking the initiative to start something, pointing out, "Poke the Box is a manifesto about producing something that's scarce, and thus valuable. It demands that you stop waiting for a road map and start drawing one instead."

Okay, this a common call to action. We've all heard it in some form. What is unusual about Godin's version is his acknowledgment that taking initiative doesn't have to equate to grandiose outcomes. As long as there is follow-through on the process, results can be modest to be meaningful."
